Lab Manager 4.0.4 Wants ESX not ESXi

If you want to export a VM out of Lab Manager to a SMB share, make sure your hosts are ESX. Lab Manager lists ESXi on the support matrix, but some products are more supported than others. 🙂

Error exporting Configuration

  • vCenter Lab Manager cannot find any suitable host connected to the datastore “Sample_DataStore” for this operation.
    • Host “esxi1.domain.com” is an ESXi host and does not support smbmount.
    • Host “esxi2.domain.com” is an ESXi host and does not support smbmount.
    • Host “esxi3.domain.com” is an ESXi host and does not support smbmount.
    • Host “esxi4.domain.com” is an ESXi host and does not support smbmount.
    • Host “esxi5.domain.com” is an ESXi host and does not support smbmount.
    • Host “esxi6.domain.com” is an ESXi host and does not support smbmount.

EDIT: I was able to add just one ESX server to the mix and all exports run out of that host. Glad I didn’t have to convert them all.
